Unless you werre chheating and rread guides beforre playing yourr firrst S---b session, it was undoubtedly a verry unpleasant surrprrise whhen thhe firrst deathh occurred. Thhis goes whhethherr it was yourr own orr thhat of a a comrrade. My own was no exception.
It was earrly on, whhen I was assisting my superriorr in explorring hherr land. We hhad been given a quest to rretrrieve an object of some minorr imporrtance frrom a few villages overr. I assume thhe purrpose of thhis quest was to familiarrize us withh thhe rrathherr unusual system of movement in it.
We werre thhrrowing small objects into the teleporrterrs in orrder to deterrmine whhichh one led wherre whhen we werre set upon by two imps and a basilisk. Thhis would hhave norrmally been a simple fighht, but durring thhe frray I was knocked down by thhe basilisk and as I was about to pick myself up a strray rrock frrom an imp's slingshhot turrned it on. I was immediately bisected.
I will hhave you know thhat hhaving yourr legs and parrt of yourr abdomen separrated frrom thhe rrest of yourr body hhurrts quite a lot. At thhe time, I hhad been underr thhe imprression thhat whhen ourr hhealthh vial emptied, we would eithher disappearr like thhe monsterrs orr rrespawn elsewhherre. Thhis was not thhe case.
Luckily, my superriorr was able to piece togethherr thhe hhints we hhad been given about thhe drreamself-waking mechhanic and rrevived me in time. Still, I would not rrecommend thhat you trry suchh a thhing yourrself.

My first death... Man that was a while ago. It was in my first session. I had wandered into a Sunslammer with my friend, and we were confronted with a Titanium Roc. I was killed, and my friend fled with my body. He threw it on the quest bed, and I ascended.

Oh geeze. My first... I can't even remember what know, but something set my Knight in my first session off and he BTed... and then I did in response because he was fucking up my land... and we kind of killed each other just as our friends arrived. They carted us off to our Quest Beds in time for what I'm told was a rather blinding double ascension.

I'll admit to having cheated liberally. "Humble heart, but not humble mind" and all that.
That said, I still didn't expect my first death. I knew it would happen eventually - probably - since I had seen a me in a godtier hoodie running around. But all she would tell me is that I would 'drown and sink before rising anew'.
Which, wonderfully cryptic but not terribly informative when there's at least two ways "drown" can be interpreted. As it turns out, she meant that I was going to be out questing with our Knight of Blood and get jumped by imps - which is just embarrassing - and got stabbed in the lung. Which wouldn't be so much of a problem if it hadn't clipped my spine at the same time.
So I have to talk the Knight down from panicking, get him to tie me to his back - because we're in his land, not mine, and it'll take us four portals just to get to my spire - and then I kind of pass out so that I can run my dreamself to the Crypt Bed just in case we don't make it to the Quest Bed in time.
Then I had to try and talk him into mercy-killing me so that I wouldn't drown in my own blood.
I'm sure the reference to "drowning and sinking" are fairly clear now, so I won't elaborate on how successful that wasn't.
I suspect actually drowning might be less painful, but I'm not about to try and find out.

So one of my friends and I are dungeon diving and fighting monsters and shit and next thing you know an Ohgodwhat is there. God I hate those things, just go ahead and smash a whole bunch of health vials to make a completely ridiculous overpowered monster why don't you.
You can guess how that ended, especially with the topic of this thread. I died. Then I undied. Turned out this dude had, uh, romantic feelings towards me. Awkward, especially since I was dead when he decided smooching me was a good idea. All the same that was how we discovered "hey, we can die! Also, we can undie! Awkwardly!"
Makes me wonder how many sessions have first time players manage to get through into the medium then fail and die because they never find out corpse smooching is a thing.

Well, my first death was rather boring. We just have decided that a God Tier Seer of Space should be a thing, so I got on my Bed with our Muse of Life and she killed me there.

Well there was the time oUr GUard decided that I had to join the God party whether I actUally wanted to or not. She had an accomplice keep me asleep while she cUt my throat. Hey lady, being a God Urself doesn't aUtomatically make shit like that okay! So I cUt off her hands in retUrn.
I made a thread aboUt these things in the Player Stories section a while back, if anyone wants more detail.

I guess I'll go with first alpha timeline death because fuck if I can remember which of the three doomed me corpses I got assaulted with in the beginning of the game were dead first.
Yeah like CU I got force-tiered. Psychobitch snuck up on me, sliced me up with finesse that would have made our resident troll chef proud, deposited me on my quest bed, and promptly tried to make out with me after I ascended and punched her in the face.

Haven't suffered one myself yet, somehow.
The first death I dealt with was our space player this session. It was...I guess it was a clean death? We never found a body at any rate. [Atomik Bonsai]. Still no idea what kicked him off like that.

my first death was... unpleasant. i had just skipped out on another coplayers funeral, and was chilling out in my spire. i already knew my best bro was coming to find me, he had messaged me to say so. but while i was just sitting around one of my other coplayers snuck up on me and well.... chopped me up. my bro managed to find my head in time and corpsesmooched me. no one knew i was alive for three days because i was too scared to leave my dream tower

Okay, think I can safely say that what I said before no longer applies.
Stabbed through the chest by a SD and thrown in the Forge. My dream self had been moved to the crypt slab, though, so I had a second chance at things.
