Hello~~
I am currently writing a guide on Sburb. ~25 sections/chapters, ~80 pages, etc etc. I just wanted to give a sneak peek into the fic.
Consorts are normally a form of reptilian or amphibian. In sessions large enough they are seen to include Dinosaurs, Aves, and a couple other type of creature found on Earth. This is primarily for the sake of variety. Playing in a session of more than 4 with just Salamanders, Turtles, Crocodiles, and Iguanas would get boring.
Consorts are edible, but please don’t ever do this except as a desperation tactic. It’s not that they don’t taste good or anything, but it’s just that it’s wrong. Even if you use the method to kill consorts without losing LandRep it is WRONG.
Most Consorts are Insectivores, but in addition to that they are best considered Omnivores to the extent that humans are. They normally prefer insects due to their species, but many also enjoy vegetables (or players if someone fails so succeed their first interaction with their consorts). Their Omnivorous Diet is supported chiefly by their economy, which is largely Agricultural. All Lands have some form of economic exchange (such as a Grist Exchange), but only 1 out of 4 Consort Societies has majority access to this type of economic exchange.
To finish what my tangent strayed from, Consorts mainly gain food sources from Farming, Livestock Rearing, Gathering, Fishing, Hunting, and Trade. Many types of life form exist on your Land, and on others, which leads to this myriad of sustenance sourcing. Most of the time Consorts will rely upon Farming, Livestock Rearing, and Trade. Trade includes the creation of food at a player’s home, and then taking it back to their residence for whatever reason.
Anyhow, most farms usually end up farming what I call “crap crops”, such as shitty mushrooms, crabby apples, crappy peppers, and others that your farmers will exposit at length on the pointlessness of. Rarer farms create crops that aren’t crappy, and are actually quite good. These are for special occasions like boiling the Player alive in.
When it comes to Livestock Rearing, Consorts tend to just raise easy to breed insects, like maggots, detrivorous beetles, and other grubs. Depending on the type of Consort they may also raise a small mammal or avian that is unique to SBURB. No alien life or terran life looks like it, which is a peculiar feature of the game.
Further, Consorts will trade with those of other lands via the methods Prospit and Derse provide them with, or that which they can procure on their own. The issues in that lie that Prospit Convoys are often slow or attacked by Dersite Agents, and Dersite Convoys have high tariffs. Consorts rarely have their own means, unless the Consort Society of your Land happens to have the Piracy or Merchantry Economy in effect.
Speaking of which, Consort Societies on a Land often are one of many types of Economy. Just like there are sets of Consort Species, there are sets of Consort Economies. Every game is guaranteed to have 1 of each of the main Set, and the rest can be increasingly rare.
First we have The Traditional Economies: Farming, Scholary, Industrial, and Ancient.
Farming – Your consorts primarily deal in growing things. In addition to this they are good at Livestock-Rearing (despite having few to no dedicated facilities on Land), Fishing, Hunting, and Gathering. They primarily have crappy crop farms. Almost entirely that. They often are less oppressed by Derse for producing bountiful buffer crops to feed Dersite Armies, and this leads them to try and supply Prospit with supplies more often too. In addition, these Consorts use Pre-Industrial techniques for their farming

S1.2 – In-Depth Ecology
Consorts also drop no grist when killed, and do not require grist to reproduce. Consorts also have a lifespan anywhere from 1 day to Several years. This is more thoroughly touched upon in the section on Consort Breeding. They are a biological creature, if it wasn’t obvious enough. Despite their synthetic creation, they are entirely organic.
