This is the guidelines for the following IRC channels associated with the Replay Value AU:
irc.skaia.net/#replayvalue (ooc)
irc.skaia.net/#ultimatereward (ic)
Other channels that spawn from both, such as sidechannels (permanent sidechannels include but are not limited to #alt-ic, #alt-ooc, #bubbles, and #extendeddiscussion), will be under these rules unless otherwise noted.
Note that these guidelines are subject to change at any time for any reason. However, I promise to keep it reasonable.
Without further ado, then.
----
Keep it chill. The channels are for shooting the breeze, roleplaying, the occasional feelings jam, and talking about all things AU. They are not for arguments and harassment. Talking about topics that make people extremely uncomfortable is not cool, although interesting discussions about serious business are fine. (If someone asks, though, do take it to PMs.) Also helpful: please ask before engaging in extensive griping. It's not forbidden, but it is frowned upon to monopolize the channel.
We have people who require content/trigger warnings. At this time, the minimum you need to warn for is pictoral gore, sexual content of any kind (with a second warning for sexual violence, even if mentioned obliquely), needles in flesh, insects (incl. spiders, name which insect is pictured), relational/domestic/familial/child abuse of any kind (including emotional abuse), provocation of paranoia/fear-of-stalking, and substance abuse. While putting these warnings in a [tw: xxyy] form is not required (and looks a little tacky, tbh), it is good practice to describe what is on the other side of a link whenever you make one.
For more detail on trigger content inherent to Replay Value's setting, see [document in progress].
Keep it SFW. While light swearing to punctuate a point is fine, swearing in every sentence is overkill, and explicitly NSFW discussion and links such as to pornography or gore are out of the question entirely. (Mentioning the existence of rule34 is not a bannable offense.) If you'd like to go over a 15-year-old rating, ask a regular to refer you to the NSFW channel or take it to PMs.
Keep it readable. Text colors should be readable; if someone tells you they can't read your text color you need to change it. Typing quirks, other than the requisite Rangoon warning that must be posted above such logs, are all right ICly, and outlawed OOCly. No, they're not cute. Unless specificNihilism is doing it, in which case everything is cute because specificNihilism is basically a puppy.
If someone tells you to stop doing something, stop immediately. This is non-negotiable. If you can, start a discussion about why you have been doing it and how you could modify your behavior to make sure everyone is comfortable. On the flip side, you have the right to leave at any time if you do not think you can handle any discussion. You do not need to ask anyone if you can leave. You do not need to wait for the discussion to end to leave. You do not even need to make sure others know why you are leaving. (Though if you leave, it is a very good idea to PM someone to explain why you left so that concerns can be addressed.)
Operators of the chat reserve the right to kick and/or ban for reasons that may or may not be on this set of guidelines. It's probably never going to get used, y'all are handling it pretty well, but I guess I'm just going to codify this stuff for the sake of having something coherent.
