ok so I'm not gonna lie When I started the fic, I was pretty sure that I'd get bored after a few chapters. I prepared lore in advance, oh yeah, but man, I do that all the time. I still get bored and wander off projects. For some reason I actually stuck with this project. I'm as surprised as you guys are. No seriously. My longest fic before was 4k word and this one is reaching 100k words. Something's not right here. It's like some kind of wizard shenanigans took place and now I'm waiting for an owl courier to invite me to the magic world. I never expected this fic to become big. Every new chapter was like "k, I'm gonna get bored after this one". So the obvious thing is, I have no experience with long fics and it caused all kind of inconsistencies. It also caused huge drops in quality. You know, the ungodly amount of typos and grammar mistakes. I wanna fix all that stuff. But then, I find out that when I'm re-visiting stuff that I wrote months ago, I also want to add new stuff here and there. And that is the point of this thread. Are you guys cool with that? Fixing old chapters and adding new information? I just want to make sure. I like to ask opinions and stuff. I'm not gonna add a lot of things. I'm basically fixing old mistakes while muttering " Out, damned spot! out, I say!" like I'm roleplaying Lady Macbeth or something. But I know the typos will always be there. In my heart. And let's not even talk about lore mistakes. Yesterday I was re-reading my fic's first chapters for the first time since I wrote them. One chapter mentions a Druid title. So I was like, yo, what the hell is a Sburb Druid? What is it doing in my fic? Past me, why do you have to make our relationship like thisSo yeah. I wanna fix old chapters. I started with the table of content. Now it's actually useful and stuff. So, opinions! Are you guys cool with it if I edit old chapters to fix embarrassing stuff and maybe add new things? I'm thinking of dropping in this thread every little things that I add to previous chapters. Like a version history for the FAQ. You know, so that it doesn't look like I'm hiding things and bidding you to re-read 100k words. Who wants to read that many words anyway.

Hey, I don't think anyone is going to throw a fuss about you fixing up your own fic to your standards. ;3 It would be nice if you would let us know what you tweak, though!

Yeah, I think it's a great idea. Although, it would probably be a good idea to tell us where you added stuff.

I say do what's going to make you happy with your project. You do it for the love of it anyway, right? Do agree with the others that being able to track big changes would be nice though.

I will say what everyone else said, which is, please go ahead, we will be thrilled by the quality and consistency increase and you have every right to do with your work what makes you happier with it.
However, if you added or canceled information, having a changelog here would be nice, so we can keep track.

You see all those other dudes/dudettes in this thread? What they said, I basically agree with here.
Correct away.

Yeah yeah, go ahead. Are you gonna fix any stuff that's... sorta in conflict with HS, like the new Muse revelation and such? How d'you deal with jossing?

A good idea, I'd say. Gotta agree with the people above me.

Are you gonna fix any stuff that's... sorta in conflict with HS, like the new Muse revelation and such? How d'you deal with jossing? Not really, nah. My titles are already messed up. I got the shaft when Aranea was exposed as a healer and when Dirk explained a Page as something other than a confident fighter. I didn't care to change anything either times and I'm not gonna start now. It would be pointless to run after every little things that the canon denies. It will never end. I'm fully aware that the canon material will contradict everything in my fic. I might as well laugh about it.

We could start seeing Session Drift towards the proper canon roles at some point eventually, but that's something that's going to happen later.
Also there's speculation that uu is Lord of Time (hint, hint), and we don't have Lord as a title... yet.
Maybe sometime soon there'll be another dumbass developer who renames Clown to Lord and continues to completely mess things up.

I'm looking forward to the little changes and tweaks. Fanfiction has a much lighter edit process than other more polished work; as a result, taking the time to go back and add a little polish can really make it shine. Pick out a way to keep the little tweaks around to keep us posted, (version history, sekrit notes at the bottom of the 'underwater lands' chapter, etc, and you'll be golden.

First milestone to pretending that the fic has quality: Chapter 1: ------------------------------ •Updated the chapter list •Embedded links for easier browsing •Made the spirograph gate green, I think it looks rad •Fixed ascii banner. The number between brackets that is intended to be used to CTRL+F chapters is now in front of the chapter title instead of above it ------------------------------
Chapter 2: ------------------------------ •fixed the HTML to make it consistent with the fic •Fixed ascii banners •Added some colors to the ascii art because why not ------------------------------
Chapter 3: ------------------------------ •fixed the HTML to make it consistent with the fic •Fixed ascii banners ------------------------------
Chapter 4: ------------------------------ •fixed the HTML to make it consistent with the fic
•Fixed ascii banners
•Removed references to title abilities, an initial concept that I scrapped in favors of passive traits.
•Made a proper allusion to the roleplay system when speaking of player specialization.
•Changed many terms between quotation marks and placed them between brackets. I think quotation marks are silly. It confuses the readers, they won't be able to tell if a term is made up on the spot by the author or if it's officialized in Sburb or the Sburb community. That doubt shouldn't be found in a FAQ. Instead, brackets imply that a term is already accepted. Example of paragraph:
"The topic of Sburb terminology is a battlefield which is fertile in arguments. In particular, the fabulous titles that are assigned to Players have generated a constant influx of problems. The official word for the game designation of a Sburb Player is a [Mythological Role]. However, that's just way too long to type. In the FAQ community, this term is shortened as [Role]. It may also be shortened as [Mythos] but that's usually found in very old FAQs."
•Added reference to the term Ideograil, which I forgot to mention back then. "Depending on how the Aspect is being manipulated, this symbol may glow on the palms, on the feet, on the back, in the eyes, and so on. The Aspect symbol is called an [Ideograil] when it is appears on the body of Players while they channel their Aspect."
•Removed reference to a Druid title. You wanted to be a Druid? Too bad. You can't be a druid anymore bro. You had to be faster. Now it's gone, gone, it's completely gone.
•Mangrit tweaks and better phrasing. The mangrit stat allows you to lift heavy things and put them down. It also makes you better at strifing. Who needs finesse when you can punch people's head off?
•Scamperway tweaks and better phrasing. Removed reference to title ability in favor of title passive trait.
•Changed the stat "instrumastery" to "item mastery". What I was even thinking.
•Clarified under ladpluck and lasspluck that people use the genderless word [pluck] for simplification purposes. Also: it's semi-unrelated but much later after writing this chapter, I was checking the extra notes to one of the early exploration flash. John's ability to charge FEAR NO ANVIL, and apply timestop with it, is actually called "expanding boypluck".
•Rephrased white carapace reputation and added stuff "Carapace reputation for the white side. Porcelain people hate you when you lose your prospitian street creds. You need a lot of carapace reputation to be allowed to enter certain areas of the royal palace like the cartography room or the royal library, which is all kind of unfair because it's bugged for derse dreamers and they have no reputation requirement."
•Rephrased black carapace reputation and added stuff "Carapace reputation for the black side. Ebony people will step on your grill if you can't derse it up. Also, Black Carapace Reputation is useful to attack the Black King by surprise at the end of the game."
•Added references under sleep ratio for two glitches that show up later: "Some people have dreamselves that are permanently awake because this stat is negative." and "If this stat is missing, your dreamself might go rogue on you. Like, it becomes sentient (and psycho) and you're into a whole lot of trouble."
•Added reference to player commands and pendants under the stats related to sprites. "This stat increases slowly as you spend time with the sprite. As this value goes up, the Sprite will hand out the Sprite Pendant, teach you the first player commands ( a song) and then leave you. So it can be seen as sort of countdown for until you lose your sprite. And yes, it's a thing that's gonna happen."
•Added random comic reference under pepleader. "With enough pepleader, you can tell underlings to get out and they'll listen to you (if you are dead serious)"
•Added a few tweaks to the unused shipping stats.
•Added a sentence at the end of Corruption "You shouldn't even be scanning someone that is suffering from corruption. That's just asking for trouble. Your scan-ability might bug out or flatly get erased. It's like trying to take a picture of a ghost and your camera explodes or something."
•Corrected a few broken sentences here and there to make reading more fluid. ------------------------------
And that's it for now. Feels weird to re-read all that junk.

You'll probably save yourself a lot of trouble in the contradicting-canon department (and add a lot more freedom in the fan-additions department, like that Sound guidepage) if you make a note or two in the chapters initially describing Aspects and Titles that occasionally you hear about people getting one that doesn't appear to be a "normal" Role. Maybe speculate that they're Roles that someone wasn't finished with them when this POS was rushed out the door.
That way, if canon mentions any Title or Aspect you don't list you've got an out, and if someone wants to make up a guidepage on their own (or hell, make a character out of it, provided they're not an idiot) they've got an in.
edit: Oh hey, I found an error. In the chapter on diseases you mention Rangoon messing up "Scribe" player abilities. Which isn't a class that exists.

That's not a bad idea, disasterAverted. It would give more room to add to the fic if I convey the meaning that it's a work in progress. Oh and thanks for pointing out the Scribe bit! It's hella embarrassing that it's been there all along.
