While I'm waiting for my head to stop spinning from the latest massive disaster of a timeline, I figUre I oUghta actUally start pUtting stUff Up on the forUms again. So on that note, food. People like food. And we have people from all sorts of places here, so we have a lot of types of food that a lotta other people haven't so mUch have heard of.
So why not make a thread aboUt it? Everyone likes food. Let's share some cUltUral recipes with each other. Here, I'll start:
Fried MealgrUbs and Marballs
This is a staple of movie theaters all over Alternia, and as U might be able to tell from that almost no one knows how to make them right. U shoUldn't have to pUt Ur mealgrUbs in a lake of bUtter and salt to disgUise how flavorless they are when they're made from dried stock! And marballs are jUst plain better pan-fried instead of deep-fried.
Here's what Ull need. Serves foUr:
1 (one) standard-sized bag of live mealgrUbs.
3 (three) handfUlls of fresh bone marrow. Use bovinebeast if Ur concerned aboUt taste and textUre consistency, bUt varied wild game animals provides a nice variety that I personally prefer.
1 (one) stick of bUtter
1/2 (one-half) handfUl of fresh sawblade-flower leaves. Feel free to keep the bUds for whatever other recipes U might want to Use.
1 (one) stick of passiontUber, aboUt 1 (one) thUmbslength long. That might soUnd small, bUt it has a very strong flavor. Less is more for this one.
1 (one) handfUl of floUr
As mUch water as U need.
0 (NO) SALT.
And here's what U do:
1. Empty Ur bag of mealgrUbs into a bowl for a qUality check. If the bowl is the size of someone's head, they shoUld reach three-qUarters of the way Up. If they don't make it that far, someone stiffed U and U shoUld go beat them Up. The grUbs shoUld be wriggling the moment they hit the bowl. If they're not, they're sick and Unfit to eat. If there's any mold, they're sick and Unfit to eat. If the mold is greenish-white and lUmpy, take them oUtside and bUrn them. U do not want to inhale any of that.
2. Now set the mealgrUbs aside and chop Up Ur herbs. CUt the passiontUber in two and shred one half of it for Ur grUbs and one half for Ur marballs. Ur sawblade leaves will all go to Ur grUbs. CUt them as finely as U can, and then mix the leaf pile thoroUghly with one of the tUber piles.
3. Set Ur herbs aside. Take Ur marrow and cUt it into chUnks as large as Ur thUmb. Roll each chUnk between Ur palms Until it's the shape of a ball.
4. Make a paste with the floUr, tUber, and as mUch water as U need.
5. Roll Ur marrow balls into the paste Until they're thoroUghly coated. If done right, Ull rUn oUt of marballs right when U rUn oUt of paste. If not, oh well. Ull jUst have to redistribUte some paste or thin it oUt a little.
6. Heat the bUtter jUst enoUgh that it melts and poUr most bUt not all of it in Ur bowl of mealgrUbs. PUt Ur herb mix as well, then get Ur hands in there and start mixing. Stop when Ur grUbs are evenly coated.
7. Now set a large frying pan on mediUm heat, pUt the rest of Ur bUtter in the pan, and start frying Ur marballs. Ideally, they shoUld not be toUching each other at all. Stir them every so often so they cook evenly. Ull know they're done when their coating starts to crack.
8. Take Ur marballs out, turn the heat to as high as it goes, and pour in the mealgrUbs. Stir constantly Until all of them stop wriggling. Do not overcook them. It is very easy to overcook mealgrUbs.
9. PoUr the grUbs into a serving bowl, stir in the marballs, and call Ur qUadrants over to share it with U. Alternately, skewer the marballs and serve them alongside the grUbs instead of mixed in with them.
10. LaUgh aboUt theater food and how mUch better cooking at home is. SerioUsly, they Use dried grUbs. Why woUld U do that?
