I recently started my second session, and it seems that I've ended up as the Grace Knight of Rain.
The thing is... I really really don't want to be crazy. It's horrifying to me on a profound and visceral level. I don't consider myself a diehard logician or anything, but turning into a giggling maniac, losing the ability to distinguish real from fake and true from false, and thinking that there's nothing I can do to stop it is making me pretty tense. My first session was rough enough, the last thing I need is to ruin everything because I was distracted by the pretty colors.
So far, I haven't meddled around with most of my abilities anyway. Good old [cudgelkind] handles imps, and I'm focusing on the less dangerous land and dream quests anyway. The Whispering, though... I can't make heads or tails of it, and it only tends to start up when I'm tired or distracted, but it's pretty unsettling. I'm worried that they might get more hostile, if I shut them out too much.
What do I do, guys? Is it possible to manage Rain without going off the deep end, or am I (figuratively, possibly literally) doomed?

[V id T xt W rning]
I h ve a "R in" player in my c rrent session and we g t along pretty well. She's a "Sm th of R in" so it may be a b t differen than with a "Catacl sm Class". Even though "R in" is the "As ect" of 'crazy' I don't think that's ntirely accurate. It's not crazy, it's sort of l ke Lady Delirium from the s cred texts of my home. Her 'crazy' made perf ct sense in contex . The str nge stuff my co- layer says always makes s nse at least to me, like when she tries d scribing her names f r stuff like "Taker of Gleams" for our "Th ef of H art".
Th nk of it as less 'crazy' and more of a very d fferent perspect ve. It may take your c -players some time to get use to it but th y will figure it out. I haven' played "R in" myself but I hope this helps.

Aw no man, Rain is awesome. The Voices will do tons to help you if you get along with them. Just don't think to hard about what you do and it should be just fine!

Unfortunately, due to how not letting go and accepting Rain being the exact opposite of Rain's message, you need to let the Rain in or you will die. Like MD said, the Voices will guide you. The trick isn't to let the crazy pull you along, but to run with it, direct it in a certain direction. It takes a little practice. And you will not lose the ability to distinguish up from down and real from false, that's just anti-Rain propaganda. Trust me, listen to the Voices, and let in the colors and mayhem. Rain is a blast.
Also, yes, Grace is a female title, but all the titles are sliding towards being gender neutral anyways. There's plenty of males with female titles and females with male titles. I wouldn't worry about that.

Bluh. I hate how Sburb likes to throw blatantly contradictory moral lessons at you from session to session (or even within the same one).
Also, damn. Tried out some of my abilities, I probably shouldn't be surprised that most of them were pretty unimpressive when I'm having so much trouble with the aspect. Trying to [Lifdoff] was pretty awkward, although I did manage to roll with it one time. Saw an ogre thing bossing around a bunch of imps into trying to catch some kind of huge cow/hippo thing (they're herbivores I think, definitely not consorts but my land's full of them for some reason), and pretty much bouncing off. Kinda freaked me out after, when I realized I'd pretty much been giggling through the whole fight without realizing it. I'm pretty sure I stabbed the ogre through the head. With my broomstick. That's just unnecessarily gruesome.
[Neon Ice Cream Headache] is too expensive for me to cast more than once right now, and it seems pretty slow. I did use it to melt through a wall one time; it smelled disturbingly like peanut butter.
I guess I'll see if I can roll with it... but to be honest, I dunno if I trust the Voices. I don't really trust anything Sburb does, to be honest, but maybe that's just paranoia.

Yeah, if your ARC is low enough that NICH is only castable once then you're in all sorts of trouble. It should be a low-cost, easily spammed ability. There's actually a few other abilities that follow on from it, letting you you use the rainbow goop for things.I guess I'll see if I can roll with it... but to be honest, I dunno if I trust the Voices. I don't really trust anything Sburb does, to be honest, but maybe that's just paranoia. It's paranoia. As in, The Voices may well have gifted you with actual clinical paranoia.
The Voices gift you with madness as a means of removing the limitations placed upon your mind. They free it, allowing you to think and imagine in ways you would never have imagined possible, pushing you to do and consider things beyond the bounds of mere sanity. There is still logic there, and sense, merely of a sort free from limitation. Meaning is meaningless, for the world is Mu, and thus the meaning we ascribe is all the more meaningful. Doceo Insanire Omnes.
Me going all rainy-talk will likely not provide a suitable explanation. So here's one that makes more sense: The Voices teach you to think outside the box, and they do so by driving you mad. You will not lose the ability to reason or comprehend things, you will just be exposed to stimuli that make the apparently insane reaction the only reasonable one. This needs to happen, because you need to be able to think and understand things that you would otherwise have found impossible.
Also, The Voices, and by extension the whole aspect of Rain, are fond of metaphors, word puzzles, obscure references and zen koans. When a Rain aspect is apparently babbling away incoherently, they're actually just talking in a long, dense string of these. If you can decipher it, they're usually actually making a great deal of sense.

Slowly making progress, I suppose. I've been trying to open myself up to the mindset, but it's not coming easily. The Voices are actually getting quieter, lately. I have to actively concentrate just to make them out now. I assume that's a bad sign.

Man, your not supposed to care about if you hear the voices. Your supposed to not care and just move onto something funner. Like rainbows, try to create some rainbows. You don't even need a reason just do that and decide that you want to turn some rocks into ducks for some reason. Stop asking questions you can do that stuff and you will do it because you can. In fact ignore everything I just said and do the inverse because that sounds like it would be a lot more fun to turn ducks into rainbow clouds of happiness that shoot lightning that turns things into rubber. Maybe have a tea party with consort puppets except its not tea its liquid lava the puppets like that shit though go on. If your still reading this you obviously haven't tried to eat my words and make them taste like candy yet, man you have got to try that. Funnest shit ever.

I can't help you with Rain problems, but most of the time whisperings get louder as your ARC increases (except for Voi players?), quiet whisperings seem to be a sign of something wrong (or about to go wrong?), but I still need a to survive a few more sessions before I can give more helpful advice.

That's entirely nonsensical to me, I'm afraid. It's not like I have a switch in my brain that I can flip to turn "conventional logic" off.

Think of it less as a switch and more of a ch nce to indulg your terrible ideas and h ve them work. Everyone has th se terrible id as that if th y ever tried them would fall flat. "R in" is a chan e to make these work. Also MD, if/when I ro l "Ra n" I am definitely tryi g that or at least usin that as a jumping off point.

I can only try to teach you the madness, not explain it. So thanks for the better explanation incidentalCompeer. I'm sure I can give you tons of non dangerous idea's if you ever role it.
