Evening, whosoever reads this!
I recently reread grindinglyGodliest's/GodsGiftToGrind's Glitch FAQ and found myself, for the second time, looking upon this site. I read over a good many stories here and found myself desperately wishing to tell a tale of my own, White Wolf/D&D-style or otherwise. Of course, that requires a character and, as many moderators and such seem keen on reminding everyone else in this section of the fora, a story to tell.
I feel I have one, one which I would like some assistance with, inspired by the overall gloom and despair that has permeated what I feel beneath many people's characters, with particular emphasis on the brilliant, if tragic figure, presented by spacetimeCounsular. Here goes:
I would like to create a story of hope.
Not a story of persistence in the face of the hell that is eternity in SBURB, not one of "through stoic skepticism and relentless effort, one can overcome all obstacles" or anything like that; wouldn't want to get preachy here. No, just a story that might give this AU some kind of far-off, distant sense that the game might end and one could, just perhaps, one day be spared from the Replay.
Then I want to rip that hope out and poke all kinds of holes in it.
I haven't a name for the character yet, but I intend on him being a human from an alt-Earth that ended up in a "Bastion"-like situation BEFORE the game started, with an Earth that got a sizable bit blown to bits in the characters mid-childhood, rendering the majority of the planet uninhabitable. By "chance," he finds a copy of the game and a shitty computer to run it on before, WOOPS, having to suffer through ANOTHER apocalypse.
I like the idea of his first session being with, since it seems like the little world I just presented would be a little too improbable for a second "chance" event occurring simultaneously, let alone 2 or 3 more times for a comfortable number of players. Plus, I would really like to have other forum goers around to show me the ropes of posting in character and such.
I'm thinking Displacement class of Hope or Stars, to play with the dual-nature of what he must do in order to overcome the magnified pain of all the loss he has suffered, though that's hardly set in stone. Regardless of what one suggests, some basic personality outlines would be appreciated, if one feels so inclined to offer.
I also like the idea of him being really rather shitty at his first role, throughout the whole of the session. So much so, that he is given a highly similar, or identical title, in his second playthrough, meaning that I want these wounds to run DEEP in his personality.
In the end, I want him to learn from his fuck-ups and, through a truly ridiculous amount of luck, end up finding a tentative way out of the game, finding a way to ACTUALLY grab the Ultimate Reward and give the impression that not everyone who never gets seen again is leaving for the corpse party, that they just somehow were able to leave for a new world and never able to communicate with SBURB connected universes again.
Except that, as I said, this exit is tentative, unstable and faulty. In these "Post-SBURB" universes, you simply pick up essentially where you left off before the game, it's just that you now get to live out your life. However, you and your session-mates, whoever survived, are no longer the players of your universes session; it's your ectobiological dancestors, who you may or may not be raising to go on to be Replayers themselves and whom, should they succeed in obtaining the Ultimate Reward, will get to live out their OWN new lives while forcing a new-ish version of yourself to play SBURB.
Reprieve is possible, but escape is not. You were born of SBURB and shall ever remain intertwined with it.
Still, after potentially YEARS of living in the game, even reprieve must sound like paradise.
...So yeah, that's about all I had begun to consider on the matter. I would love to hear if this is completely stupid and out of line for the Replay Value AU and if my character concepts stinks of some lacking in originality or what. Feedback please!
And, if by some strange chance someone would like to help me RP this, please send an invite or something. Thanks everyone!
