so being a knight, like being literally any sburb class, is a e ticket on the magic bullshit subway to the most horrible place on earth, DEADNEY WORLD
and remember: when you reach down into a pile of meat that was your best friend's face and you have no freaking clue what to do, and this was your fault, and how are you supposed to handle this because you are the freaking knight and keeping people alive was your ONE job and you can't even handle that:
talk about it on the internet

So um. I heard that rp was super important in this game, but seriously? Wholesale slaughter isn't cool, even for questionably-real game constructs. They SOUND real when they crack, and that's good enough for me. So i guess what I'm asking is. Uh.
Is it possible to do a pacifism run as a knight? Like, is there an interpretation of the title that can make that work? How literal do we have to be here?

Hmm... that's a tough one. The time I was a knight of Rain, I went particularly off the deep end and spent most of the session fighting imaginary monsters. A little embarrassing in retrospect, but the game seemed to accept it. I can't imagine that sort of thing would work for the stars aspect though.
It might be a little easier if killing things wasn't one of the most important parts of the game. You've gotta climb your echeladder, gain fighting experience, and eventually have a showdown with the main boss. The pacifist run isn't even an option to begin with unless you're confident the other players can handle the black king without you, and it's still incredibly dangerous, especially for a knight.
I'm afraid I can't really think of a way you could do that. Just imagine the enemies are like ants or other small bugs that have become aggressive and are trying to kill you. They've probably got less brain power than an ant, and getting murdered by you is technically the purpose for which they came to be. Don't really know what else to say to ya, sorry.

If your Class is described by [Verb] in the end there's two main interpretations you can go by. There is the so-called "transversal" one where you [Verb][Aspect] and the "longitudinal" one where you [verb] using [aspect]. The longitudinal one is usually much more intuitive.
A Knight of Stars fights attraction, or fights using attraction. You can very well try using Stars transversally, meaning you restrict yourself to actions that only harm an abstract concept.
To be honest, though? You are always going to get a good RP coefficient for fighting and you are always going to be effective as a fighter, and unless you have a seventy-four people in your session, your team is going to need it. So possibility or not my advice is to man up and get squishing. Realistic as they look, they are game abstractions, they want to kill you and they were created with the only purpose of killing you or die trying (and usually they are going to do the latter a lot). A "pacifist run" will only force the other people playing with you to deal with your share of enemies as well, which is sort of what you should be doing for them instead. You know, being a knight and everything.
If it makes you feel better, they are also largely mindless and we never conclusively proved they actually felt pain.

Has anyone ever reached a diplomatic solution to the thing with the black king? Like, does the game allow that? I know it's possible to befriend the imps. Just. There HAS to be a way to avoid either abandoning your friends when they need you OR killing a bunch of people. You can totally fight without killing. And, I mean--you get echeladder points for doing dungeons and puzzles and things too, right? //If it makes you feel better, they are also largely mindless and we never conclusively proved they actually felt pain.//This does help a little. They just sound so pitiful when you hit them

I think it's pretty much impossible to get through the game in a pacifist run. Yes, it's probably possible to get to the top of your echeladder without fighting, but you need grist. You need to fight to get grist. Also, while the Black King is not a bad person if you meet him on Derse before you need to fight him, there are definitely people on Derse who you cannot talk to and who you should defend yourself against. Also, I don't think diplomacy is possible with the Black King. He really believes the whole anti-frog thing pretty deeply. The only way to not fight him is to not do anything that involves creating a new universe. Which would result in your death. It's him or you, AA.

It would be fine if it were just him or me. I'd be ok with him killing me, if it came down to that. My life's just not that important, big picture. But I have my family and my mates here, can't just go "lol kk lets get ur stab on n then things can be cool". Either there's some loophole that will let us make people play nice or I'mma have to start breaking heads. And that will suck balls.
I mean. I do get that I'm being sort of freaking ridiculous here. This whole conversation has been "Do I HAVE to?" "ya u do" "o rly?" "ya rly". Just. Fuck, man. Does this game just WANT to make you into an evil bastard or something?

Short answer, yes.
The game uses his knowledge of your history and personality to give you a class that challenges you. Half of the time, this means ending up doing something you don't like. In your case you don't like fighting, so that's what you have to do. People who rush into things without thinking them through get Tacticians. Selfish people get Performers and those who don't like having attention on themselves get Cataclysms. It's just the way it is. It's the way the game wants you to grow up and you are going to have to do that or you are going to die. This is not something that is going to change. The sooner you accept this, the better for both you and your coplayers.

Pacifist runs are possible. Hard, but possible.
Knight of Stars is not the role you want to try it with though. Way I see it, Stars is about acceptance in the same way Hope is denial, and Knight is basically all about combat, so Sburb is basically telling you to man up and accept that you have to kill stuff. A rare case of having to [ASPECT] your [VERB].
It's all kind of a pity though. The kings are actually pretty decent folks if you ever get the chance to chat with them.

Ok. I get it. I just. A murderer wasn't exactly on my top-ten list of "things I want to be when I grow up," is all. Helping other people and thinking things through are at least good things to learn. On the other hand, I probably owe you all a huge thank you. I mean, the situation sucks hardcore? But I probably would have died even accepting that it really was the situation--or worse, let someone I love die. So, yeah. You guys here are the best. <3

Yeah, bro. I am sorry about that and I realize I was being a little harsh but... Nobody likes their first role at the beginning. I am sure you can try to pick your fights and limit unnecessary violence, but sooner or later you'll have to man up and fight the ones you picked.
That is the way the game wants you to solve the points of your quest and failing to comply will make you dead. I wasn't kidding or anything. And, most than anything, I don't want our precious new players to die.
