My name is Oliver and this is my first "session" of Sburb.
I'm scheduled to play with a few people and one of them was rather persistent in that we register on this site. I guess this is the go-to site for assistance? (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.)
After browsing a few threads, I have to say I'm not sure what to think of this game. Is it that hard that people have to try over 10 times to beat it? Does it operate under a 'no save point' system or is it just one really hard boss?
I apologize if I come off as demanding, but I'd like to know of anything that's guaranteed to cause problems for us in advance preferably right now as the game is already installing and I don't want to be a huge burden to my teammates with my lack of skill or knowledge.

Ooooooooh dear. You are in for one hell of a ride. D8
Think virtual reality. Only cut out a hefty chunk of the "virtual". There's no save point. The game isn't exactly the traditional definition of "beatable". If you're lucky, you've got a copy that's only a little glitched.
Please note that "a little" is relative here.
You're... going to want to read this... I'm sure that both it and the other fora-goers will explain this whole thing better than I can.
My condolences.

I don't understand. That link doesn't go anywhere.
Is the game so enticing that it becomes your life because I've had that happen before, but before I could afford that to happen because I didn't have a job to go to in the morning.

Aw, fuck, it really doesn't go anywhere. This is what I get for not testing before I post.

In asking for advice before beginning the game proper you gain an enormous advantage. From my own meager experience I can tell you that this list will be your best friend for not making things incredibly difficult later on. I would suggest circulating it among your friends as well (it would have saved mine a lot of trouble).
I didn't have a job to go to in the morning.
I wouldn't worry about it (although if there's anyone you care about who's not also playing I suggest you tell them you love them right now).

I apologize for not seeing the obvious.
I had no idea that this kind of gaming technology was even possible, so I tried to justify all that I read as pure hyperbole. ..I suppose a freak-out is expected, but first I must say: I hear scuffling outside my door.
Am I to receive a weapon anytime soon or is this a scripted event designed to spook the player?

... Oh, darling, please tell me you've allocated your Strife Specibus. You will need it for the rest of your existance.
Edit: What I mean is: you need to find a weapon yourself.

It seems I was a bit careless with my wording in that last post.
To clarify: I meant to ask was 'would I be receiving a specific weapon for whatever enemy lay outside my door?' I didn't even think of the possibility of attacking it with my bladekind..
Judging by your response, the answer to my question is no and that possibility is actually an inevitability.
Again, I apologize for my borderline stupidity..

Don't worry, there are people who are worse. Just keep it up. Also, be slightly careful with what you pick. Everything should work fine, just don't try to go around with pillowkind.

Believe it or not, you're actually doing at least as well as I did at the beginning. Maybe a bit slower on the uptake but you sound like you stand some chance of not needing to be bailed out by your little sister within the first hour of the game.
Anyways, important thing to know right now is that this part of the game is on a time crunch. A very bad one. Read the guidepages on the early game and do all that as fast as you can--deploy the equipment for your coplayers like you presumably did yourself, then gather some grist and build upwards fast. The meteors won't wait to kill you if you dawdle before entering and once inside the spawn rate on enemies will constantly increase until you reach the first gate (the glowy circles above your house). Oh, and bring a laptop with you through that gate so you can still get your coplayers to theirs.
