So. To most people, this seems like a frivolous thing that doesn't even need to exist. Well, I can't quite call myself normal. But it's serious business, at least to me. This stuff saved my life, and anyone with a deck and preferably a Duel Disk- I highly recommend Duelkind to you. (Note- some universes have the big mainstream cardgame be something like Magic: The Gathering or Grub Showdown. The way to see the applicable one is that it's the one with the cheap plastic awesome arm-mounted playing field thing. Whatever works for you.)
0)Cards work.
I don't know how this works. I honestly don't. But in the Medium, duel disks are for more than a portable table you can hit things with. In the Medium, cards WORK. You can play them on a duel disk, or on any flattish surface if need be, and have stuff happen- monsters are summoned to fight or protect (Dawnbreak Gardna FTW), spells and traps wreak... their effects, and something of particular note is that field spell cards will transport combatants and spectators to the depicted locale. (BUG- Underlings and other hostile game constructs will just stand around and watch/cheer). I would like to say that you should WATCH WITH HAWK EYES any player at risk of corruption, especially the angel kind, because who knows what would happen if they were to go crazy and use "Exodia The Forbidden One" or "Sophia, The Genesis Star God." That would be bad.
1) Keeping it cross-session!?
Yup. That's a thing that happened. I'm... not entirely sure how it works, but I managed to incorporate some Time and Space codes and some other stuff into my duel disk and when I newgameplus'd I looked at my arm and was like "OH! Looks like Dragonforcer's still there!" However, there was one... very serious side effect. I kept the strife card (bonuses reset, though with a piece of endgame equipment like that it doesn't really matter), but the duel disk wouldn't go into it. Because... it got grafted to my arm. YEAH. SO THAT HAPPENED. It's attached to my wrist, and having a super-powerful weapon with lots of sharp and pointy bits attached to your arm isn't so much fun. Anyone got any ideas on removing it?
2)They're alive!
As soon as you start alchemizing some powerful stuff into a duel disk, you'll notice something cool(to me)/alarming(to everybody else). Have you ever watched the Yu-Gi-Oh animes based off the card game? (Note- apparently some universes have it the other way around, with the game based on the anime. What's up with that?) You remember the whole Duel Spirits thing? Well, that starts being a thing that is true. I'm serious, I was trying out my new flaming-psuedocard-shooting powers and this little fairy thing from my deck is like "hey man what's good" sitting on my monitor like it's the most normal thing in the world, made me jump about six feet in the air. Over time I was seeing more of them, all of the cards in my deck eventually. Thing is, other people DON'T and I think that they thought that I had destroyed my Mind and gone crazy so they mostly left me alone. Duel spirits don't do too much most of the time, beyond moral support and occasionally some of the kinds of background stuff that Whisperings do. They also, when stakes were high and I was doing the Dueling Thing (that's what the other players dubbed my dueling enemies thing. I PROTOTYPED A CARD SERIOUSLY WAS IT THAT BAD OF A PLAN), they'd do a Destiny Draw thing and I'd draw their card.
3) NOW, I SUMMON! AN OVERDRAMATIC MOOOOOVVVVVEEEE!
I'm going to put it down straight here- Duelkind gets a bonus for melodrama. Calling your actions and announcing your arrival (dramatic ones especially) give big bonuses particularly. Seriously, I took out a colossal-class underling in one hit with a well-timed and well-announced RAGING FLAME CANNNNNOOOOOONNNNNN! It's just too much fun to send a wave of monsters or a big spell towards an enemy.
4)Alchemization
Some cool and slightly screwy stuff happens when you alchemize a duel disk. First of all, it's the || combination most of the time- the && will often make a cheap plastic version of whatever you were alchemizing with. When you do it right, you'll end up with a duel disk themed after the item(s) and with a significant power boost, and a packaged-in card (no duel spirit included) with a similar theme. For instance, Dragonforcer (Duel disk || (Inhuman Rampage [2007, Dragonforce] && a sword that our Bard of Time and Ward of Space cooked up)came with a card called "The Power Within". These cards often have a special out-of-cardgame effect like "The Power Within"'s effect to empower one big move with the visual effect of a big "DF" logo glowing on the back of their hand. It's really pretty cool. One last note- Duel Monsters cards themselves are generally really good things to combine, although the resulting card will simply be another copy of the material or a mashup of the materials if you used several.
Well, that's all I've got on the subject. I hope this saves at least one person from the corpse pile.
Er, I'm getting a message with an urgent order to relay it from my future friend. He's being pretty incoherent... um. I'm gonna need to get this thing off and alchemize some new equipment to deal with this problem. Raging Flame Angel with my duel disk, perhaps?
Gotta go deal with something soon,
