Or, SBURB Hates Duel Monsters.
So I've decided, for several reasons, to chronicle my first session here. One of the chief ones being that I am probably the only one left to tell it. It’ll be told in bits and pieces, as I write them, of course.
So to start off, I need to give a little context. My home Earth is not like yours, at all. Well, I suppose in a few ways. Spherical, mostly water-covered, occupied by humans, an atmosphere of chiefly oxygen, that kind of stuff. It’s society that was different. In a way that I am told mimics an “anime” from many Earths, it is centred around a card game, Duel Monsters. It also came with some unique functions, especially Duel Energy, which I am fairly sure is basically Metaphlogiston- or the other way around, Metaphlogiston is just Duel Energy with a lot of the cool bits filed off the edges. It gathers around important people and places, especially those related to Duel Monsters. Of course, said places were destroyed, but my 15 coplayers and I took our own in with us.
And that’s where the trouble started.
SBURB does not like Duel Monsters, we found. When we used it ourselves- which we did a lot- SBURB didn’t actively hate it, it basically turned a blind eye and said “Yeah you guys have fun with that.” What it doesn’t like is when Duel Monsters is forced into its systems. You see, we prototyped cards. 16 different cards, each one powerful, and each one sending a surge of temper through the game. It upheaved the structure of the game, making each arc culminate in a Duel, most boss fights even. Whisperings stopped caring greatly what we did, which explains my very much non-Mind tendencies.
The only reason anybody survived, ironically, is Duel Energy. It messes with physics, in odd ways- which explains my, um, choice of headwear, at least at the time of that photo- and luck as well. We managed to survive, somehow.
I can’t tell the story of all 16, of course, but with some divergences to others, I can tell my own.
So here we go.
